Wisdom for Wives

"Be diligent to know the state of your flocks …"

Are you ever surprised when God answers your prayers? In the past several days, I have prayed for God’s direction on two specific questions. The answers did not come right away, but as some days passed, I believe that He showed me the answers that I sought on both issues. And I have to admit, I was surprised!  Then again, what did Jesus say about asking and seeking?

So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

Has anything recently surprised you, but shouldn’t have?

I often find myself gritting my teeth at my kids’ incessant needing and saying, Would you PLEASE STOP asking for things?! –only to hear God’s loving whisper, Sweetheart, I love you; ask away!

Can’t help but wonder if part of the reason I don’t ask/expect more is I assume God’s enduring my requests in teeth-gritted irritation like I sometimes do my kids. Wrong, and wrong! 🙂

  2. I am often ashamed when I am surprised by God’s provision. We are to ask in faith and yet we are sometimes surprised when He delivers. We can be such silly children, at times. Thank you for reminding us today that He does answer prayer. Maybe not always the way we want or when we want, but He is always faithful, and that should never surprise us.

  3. I think I’m the most surprised when he answers prayers quickly. I blogged once on “My Desperation Prayer.” It’s as if he knows when I need it most and answers within a day or two. I am in awe at the power of God to answer prayers.
