Hide-the-Word Wednesday: Praise Him in the Calm

on October 23, 2013

Given a choice between an easy road and a difficult one, I vastly prefer easy! But I have to say, it is in the midst of life’s storms that my faith grows the most.  When I am clinging to God’s promises during painful times in my marriage, or trusting Him to provide what I know our checking account cannot, that’s when I am most aware of my dependence on His loving care and sovereign power. I would not have asked for the trials that have passed, but I wouldn’t trade in those precious, faith-building moments, either.

When it’s “all good” and the seas appear calm, it’s easy to forget that I still need the Lord as much as I do when the storm is raging. Before the children of Israel crossed the Jordan River into the long-awaited promised land, Moses reminded them that they would need the Lord in the land of milk and honey, just as much as they needed Him for daily manna in the desert. May I also remember.

When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land He has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe His commands, His laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Deuteronomy 8:10-11

I love John 16:33. He has overcome the world, so I am of good cheer. I personalize it. Thanks for sharing.
